As we continue to navigate unprecedented food insecurity following the revocation of SNAP benefits for many refugee families, Hello Neighbor remains committed to finding creative solutions to support our newest neighbors. We are glad to be collaborating with one of our long-standing, trusted partners to launch a new relief solution: our Emergency Food Box initiative with Salem’s Market & Grill.

Now, friends and supporters of Hello Neighbor can easily donate an Emergency Food Box for a family through Salem’s online ordering system. Once purchased, we handle the rest: Salem’s will assemble a box of culturally-tailored food staples like rice, chickpeas, lentils, cooking oil, and tomato paste, and Hello Neighbor will pick up any boxes donated that week to deliver to our neighbors. 

How It Works

We’ve made the process of giving as seamless as possible. You don’t need to worry about transport; we handle the logistics so the food gets exactly where it needs to go.

• Order Online: Visit the Salem's ordering system via ToastTab.
• Select and purchase the item "Emergency Food Box"
• No Pick-up needed: When you order, select “ASAP Pickup”, but no need to pick it up yourself! Hello Neighbor will pick up all boxes weekly and get them where they need to go.

For years, Salem’s has been a valued friend to the Hello Neighbor community. They have been an essential partner in projects like Immigrant Grocery Store Days, where we take clients to immigrant-owned grocers to shop for familiar foods.

What makes this food box donation option so unique is its dual impact. When you donate a box, your contribution does two things simultaneously:

1. It provides immediate relief to a family facing food insecurity with familiar, shelf-stable items
2. It reinvests in an immigrant-owned business, supporting the local leaders building a more vibrant Pittsburgh
