Currently hiring a Development Manager and Summer 2019 Interns


Hello Neighbor is currently seeking an experienced Development Manager. Under the leadership of the Founder and Executive Director, this individual will help to create and implement a Development Plan to increase and sustain our annual budget. In this context, The Development Manager will be responsible for planning and executing special events and fundraising initiatives that create visibility for the mission of Hello Neighbor, cultivate donor partnerships and relationships that build the organization’s capacity to achieve its revenue goals. Additionally, s/he will create and manage fundraising appeals and communications pieces including, but not limited to direct mail, social media, email campaigns, and crowdfunding.

The Hello Neighbor fundraising program incorporates a range of elements: individual donors, corporate donors, corporate sponsors, fundraising and revenue generating events (both in Pittsburgh and around the country), online campaigns, and grants.

Founded in 2017, Hello Neighbor works to improve the lives of recently resettled refugee families by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new lives.


This position will have the following responsibilities across all areas of fundraising and revenue generation to produce $250,000-500,000 annually:

Fundraising strategy:

  • Work in collaboration with the Executive Director to refine and enhance the existing fundraising strategy and goals
  • Support the work of the Fundraising Committee of the Board of Directors, including attending all committee meetings, keeping notes and tracking actions

Prospect development:

  • Working closely with the Executive Director and board members, identify and develop a robust prospect portfolio
  • Lead and manage the identification, research and solicitation of new donors (individuals, corporations, grants), including event sponsors
  • Support board members in their fundraising responsibilities, allowing us to make good use of their networks
  • Lead on the development of written materials in support of cultivation and solicitation activities, including proposals, letters and presentations for donors, briefing materials and contract reports

Fundraising and relationship development events:

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, devise an annual schedule of Hello Neighbor fundraising and relationship development events in line with the organization’s strategy, mission and values
  • Coordinate and deliver fundraising events
  • Lead online fundraising activities, including our Giving Tuesday campaign

Donor communication and management:

  • Develop and manage the donor management process
  • Assist the Executive Director in maintaining relationships with key donors
  • Input to organization wide communications activities to maximize their contribution to fundraising goals, including press, website, annual report, and other promotional materials
  • Be responsible for all applicable administrative activities associated with the fundraising program, including gift acknowledgments, regular mailings, and supporting the donor database

About You:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of nonprofit fundraising/development experience
  • Previous experience in event planning
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also as a team player who productively engages with others at varying levels within and outside of the organization
  • Ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects at a time
  • Knowledge of CRM software preferred
  • Experience writing digital content a plus
  • You have a passion for and track record of engaging with a diverse community
  • You thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • You take your work seriously but not yourself
  • Ideally you are proficient in a second (or third) language but that is not required
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance

Hello Neighbor is currently seeking Summer Interns. These are hands-on opportunities to work directly with our full-time staff in the areas of program support, policy development, communications, marketing and fundraising. The right candidates will be self-directed, able to handle multiple tasks and priorities at once, be a hands-on team player and passionate about working with refugees.

We are currently accepting applications for Spring and Summer 2019 internships in the following areas:

  • Communications, Digital Marketing and Social Media
  • Policy and Research Projects
  • Video and Multimedia Support


  • Time: Spring: Minimum 12 hours a week (two days in our office). Summer: Minimum 24 hours a week (three days in our office)
  • Interns are also asked to occasionally attend night and weekend events as their schedule permits (usually 1-2 times per month)
  • Act 33/Act 34 Clearances (we’ll help you get these if you haven’t before)
  • A driver’s license and car aren’t required, but can be useful and are a bonus

  • You either love social media or your understand the power it can have on building community and are willing to learn more about how to use it effectively for nonprofits
