Home Sweet Home 2023 was officially a success! To everyone in the room with us that afternoon and evening, thank you for being a part of this fantastic community. Your dedication to fostering a loving Pittsburgh and United States for our immigrant and refugee neighbors is something special.
Speaking of something special, those in the Power Center with us that evening shared a buzz of inspiration from two remarkable Hello Neighbor community members:
- Angela Chang, Volunteer Advocate Honoree
- Christina Weiss, New Neighbor Champion Honoree
Their insightful and moving remarks had the entire room emotional! Here is just a small taste of what they had to say:
"Tonight I've brought my friend Fatima* and her beautiful family. Every Thursday she lets me come to her house and she gives me Afghan tea and feeds me Afghan cake and usually sends me home with some, and we practice English together. And I've also learned that the language of motherhood is universal, as I've picked up some terms in Dari...Fatima and her family call me dear teacher and I call them friends and I think we really mean the same thing. We're honored to be part of each other's lives and we're so grateful for this experience that probably wouldn't have begun without Hello Neighbor." --Angela, Volunteer Advocate Honoree
"I want to thank the Hello Neighbor board and the multitude of exceptional staff, supporters, and family, as all of this would not be possible without all of you. Your commitment and passions for our synergistic missions are remarkable and inspires me every day. Thank you for making it evident that we can make a real change through intentional commitment to action. Activism is so important. Cultural competency, continuity of care, learning about technological advances. Our corporate leaders, providers, and partners will continue to work together to provide guidance on key dynamic social issues. In the era of increased fragmentation, together we can formalize a safe, diverse, and inclusive environment, setting the direction for our collective future." --Christina, New Neighbor Champion Honoree
