Expanding Immigration Legal Services in Pittsburgh

For many immigrants and refugees, maintaining legal status in the United States can feel confusing and overwhelming. At Hello Neighbor, we understand how stressful these processes can be, and we’re proud to offer critical legal services to help families apply for Green Cards, adjust their status, and build lasting stability in their new home.

Building a Life

The Omer family arrived in Pittsburgh in the spring of 2024 after fleeing their home in Sudan and spending years awaiting resettlement. In Pittsburgh, they’ve built a home for their family, seeking full-time work, enrolling their children in school, and learning English together. A year after they arrived, they were ready to apply for their Green Cards - a pathway to stability and future citizenship. 

Refugees are eligible to apply for a Green Card one year after arrival, but the process can be complicated and difficult to navigate. The Hello Neighbor Legal Services team guided the Omer family through each step, helping them gather the necessary documentation and understand the process clearly.

When their Green Cards finally arrived, Mr. Omer shared,

"For the first time, we feel safe and welcome here. Pittsburgh truly feels like home."

Their story reflects what so many newcomers experience, a journey from uncertainty to belonging, made possible by compassionate legal support and a welcoming community.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and funders, our low-cost immigration legal services are available to all members of our community at income-adjusted rates.

Please note: At this time, Hello Neighbor is not able to process asylum applications or represent clients in removal proceedings. We also do not provide assistance for unaccompanied minors, detainment defense, employment visas (such as H-1B), eviction defense, or family law matters.
