Join us for a month-long celebration of refugees and immigrants and the beauty and resilience they bring to our communities and world!

June is World Refugee and Immigrant Heritage Month and we are taking every opportunity to celebrate and support our newest neighbors and the countless ways they contribute to our communities, cities, and world.

Below are a mix of events and volunteer opportunities hosted by Hello Neighbor and other local clubs and organizations that are free and open to the public - all in celebration of refugees and immigrants!

HELLO NEIGHBOR EVENTS & OPPORTUNITIES

June 4th - State Of The Neighborhood

  • Date & Time: Friday, June 4th from 12 - 1PM
  • Location: Online
  • Event Details: Join us for our annual State Of The Neighborhood event on Friday, June 4th at 12pm. This virtual event is an opportunity for our community to gather together and celebrate an incredible year of impact and growth. We will be featuring musical performances, sharing stories from our families, celebrating highlights from 2020 and looking forward to the year ahead. Register to join us for FREE today!

June 6th - Hello Neighbor Playground Meet Up

  • Date & Time: Sunday, June 6th from 11AM - 12:30PM
  • Location: Mount Lebanon Park (900 Cedar Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15228)
  • Event Details: Hello Neighbor will be hosting playground meet ups in parks around the city to create a sense of community for our families. This is a great way to learn more about Hello Neighbor and meet your newest neighbors! No RSVP needed - just show up and look for Hello Neighbor’s table!

June 10th - Hello Neighbor + Choolah

  • Date & Time: Thursday, June 10th from 11AM - 8PM
  • Location: Choolah, 6114 Centre Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15206
  • Event Details: Hello Neighbor is collaborating with Choolaah for a one-day fundraiser! On June 10th ONLY you can order take out, delivery or dine in from Choolah (East Liberty location) and 30% of proceeds from your order will go toward Hello Neighbor and our families. IMPORTANT: When ordering online you must use the code HELLO at check out and when ordering in-store you must state Hello Neighbor's name or show this flyer. All orders must be placed at the Centre Ave. Choolah location.

June 11th - Community Support Day: Smart Start

  • Date & Time: Friday, June 11th - ALL DAY
  • Location: Virtual
  • Event Details: Support new refugee and immigrant moms in our Smart Start Program in 3 ways:
  • Purchase Amazon wish list items for new refugee and immigrant moms: Mutoni's wishlist, Heba's wishlist, and Aylar's wishlist
  • Donate to meal trains for new moms by making a donation here and writing "meal train" in the donation comments
  • Create Baby Boxes for refugee and immigrant moms and their newborns. Each box must include: Diaper bag, newborn clothing, onesies, baby towel and washcloths, nursing pads, lactation tea, infant toy, newborn and size 1 diapers, and wipes. All items must be NEW. Boxes can be drop off at Hello Neighbor's office (6587 Hamilton Ave, #1E, Pittsburgh, PA 15206) every Wednesday from 9AM - 5PM!

June 12th - Hello Neighbor Playground Meet Up

  • Event Details: Hello Neighbor will be hosting playground meet ups in parks around the city to create a sense of community for our families. This is a great way to learn more about Hello Neighbor and meet your newest neighbors! No RSVP needed - just show up and look for Hello Neighbor’s table!

June 15th - Community Support Day: Study Buddy

  • Date & Time: Tuesday, June 15th - ALL DAY
  • Location: Virtual
  • Event Details: Support refugee and immigrant youth education by collecting back-to-school items for students in our programs. You can donate fully stuffed backpacks for refugee students using this back-to-school donation items list or purchase back-to-school items off our Amazon wish list and Walmart wish list!

June 23rd - Office Beautification Day (Part 1)

  • Date & Time: Wednesday, June 23rd from 4 - 7PM
  • Location: Hello Neighbor's Office
  • Event Details: We are looking for volunteers to come to our office to help sort donations and assemble storage units to house essential item donations for families. If you're interested in volunteering, please email our Direct Services Coordinator, Calli White at calli@helloneighbor.io

June 26th - Distribution Day (Volunteers + Hello Neighbor Families Only)

  • Date & Time: Saturday, June 26th from 10AM - 12PM and 1 - 3PM
  • Location: Hello Neighbor Office
  • Event Details: We are looking for volunteers to attend our Distribution Day at the Hello Neighbor office to help supply refugee and immigrant families with another round of essential items and direct cash assistance checks to relieve the economic strain caused by COVID-19. If you're interested in volunteering, please email our Direct Services Coordinator, Calli White at calli@helloneighbor.io. This event is closed to registered volunteers and refugee and immigrant families enrolled in Hello Neighbor programs.

COMMUNITY EVENTS & OPPORTUNITIES

June 5th - Pittsburgh Ivorian Association Fitness Day

  • Date & Time: Saturday, June 5th from 8:30AM to 1PM
  • Location: McKinney Soccer Complex, 402 McKinney Rd, Wexford, PA 15090
  • Event Details: The Pittsburgh Ivorian Association will organize on June 5th a fitness day to celebrate the first anniversary of the Association. Other associations like Equatorial Guinea, Togo and Cameroon will be represented in the soccer games. No RSVP necessary to attend and watch the games. If you’d like to participate in the soccer games contact Eric Ngnimmien at ivorianassociationpitt@gmail.com and let him know you’re interested!

June 11th - 13th - World Square Market

  • Date & Time: Friday, June 11th (5PM - 10PM), Saturday, June 12th (12PM - 8PM), and Sunday, June 13th (12PM - 6PM)
  • Location: Market Square, Downtown Pittsburgh
  • Event Details: Welcoming Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership are teaming up to host World Square, a platform to celebrate, promote, and welcome our local international communities. Across three days in June during the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival, Market Square will become a showcase for businesses, artists, makers, performers, food vendors, and more from across the various international and newcomer communities. June 12th - Volunteer at the African Healing Garden

  • Date & Time: June 12th from 11AM - 1PM
  • Location: African Healing Garden: 160 Meadow Street, Pittsburgh, PA, 15206
  • Event Details: Join local organization, Repair the World Pittsburgh, for a clean up day at the African Healing Garden! From planting, weeding, harvesting, moving soil, and new construction projects, there's always plenty to do! The African Healing Garden is truly meant to be a place to restore! Register to volunteer and attend!

June 18th - Pittsburgh World Refugee Day

  • Date & Time: Friday, June 18th - ALL DAY
  • Location: Online
  • Event Details: In honor of the 20th anniversary of World Refugee Day celebrated around the world, Hello Neighbor is partnering with JFCS and other local organizations to host World Refugee Day Pittsburgh - a virtual celebration highlighting stories from our local refugee and immigrant neighbors. The event will include recipes, a marketplace of local artisans, kids’ activities, and ways to take action. Learn more here.
