Hello Neighbor is excited to announce that Home Sweet Home will be coming back for its second year in a row on Sunday, October 4th, 2020!
While this event was originally scheduled to take place at the historic Priory Grand Hall, due to the COVID-19 outbreak and spread of cases, we have decided to move this event online for the safety of our families, staff, and community. This virtual event will celebrate refugee home chefs who are part of the Hello Neighbor mentorship program and include the opportunity to taste delicious homemade sweets, try new recipes, and hear stories from our refugee neighbors.
This is a family-friendly event open to all. Last year’s celebration featured a henna artist, face painting, silent auction, photo booth and so much more. Though we will not be in-person, we have lots of fun in store this year as well, so make sure to get your tickets early!
Tickets go on sale in early September, so check back here for more details coming soon!
We look forward to seeing you at Home Sweet Home this year as we celebrate our newest neighbors and the beauty of cultural exchange!
Over the past three years, Hello Neighbor has grown tremendously thanks to the support of our wonderful community. Since our start, we have matched 122 recently resettled refugee families from 13 countries with dedicated Pittsburghers. Together our matches have tracked over 5,000 mentoring hours and over 500 individual activities. We’ve welcomed babies, watched families buy homes, enroll in college classes, get their first job, and their first car. With the help of our incredible mentors we have stepped up to support mentees through navigating the many challenges of COVID-19, from filing for unemployment to rent and food assistance. Our community grows stronger by the day, and we are not going anywhere.
